AMBUSHED ...........................by KILLER LITTER

Ambushed ………………by killer litter !!!

There has been many cases of killer litter again in Singapore and most recently someone got seriously injured when a pot fell him!

Almost 80 % of Singaporeans or perhaps higher % are living in high-rise Housing Development Board (HDB) flats. In the face of recent case of killer litter and cases before this incident , I am starting to feel that tougher measures are required to ensure killer litter free environment in our housing estates. Whilst we must continue the campaigns, news letter, I am also of the opinion that Town Council must seriously act on HDB dwellers / residents that refuse to cooperate towards killer litter free environment . These are the residents that hang or place objects where they could easily fall off and pose danger to public safety. Some potential killer litter items include items hung from bamboo pole holders such as potted plants, brooms and mops, and bird cages hung from the ceiling above the parapet wall. Up to 3rd quarter of 2009 HDB had issued some 39,000 warnings to HDB dwellers in attempt to educate them towards a safe living environment.

Most HDB dwellers enjoy somekind of subsidy on their conservancy charges. I must admit that I have been a very disciplined HDB dweller , I don’t pee in the lift , I don’t spit out of my window , I throw big bulky items at the designated location , definitely nothing goes out of my window and I do not compromise other people safety by hanging anything that could be hazardous!

But I am getting nothing for good behaviour . In fact, compared to other HDB dwellers I paid full for everything and at all times !
Reason … I own a private property and therefore I am not entitled to any subsidies.
What's wrong with having a retirement plan ??? WhatEver !!!

That make me think , isnt it time we remove the subsidies from those who refuse to relocate potentially safety hazard object that can cause injuries and even loss of lives. I know that any one convicted of throwing killer litter can be fined up to SG$2,500 and or jailed for up to six months , and also ,the possibility that HDB can acquire the flats in some extreme cases.

Lets not wait for another killer litter incident, with joint effort , any one of us who spot a potential safety hazard can make a report to Town council and if the household refuse to remove the object , remove their subsidies !! Sure , investigation by town council first , I agree to that.

Guess we will be seeing more of the grassroot members visiting homes , mmmmm
