Mt EVEREST

I was enjoying the picturesque view of Marina sands while having a truly sinful desserts at Equinox when I began to reflect what was said by my VP in the morning , here are the opportunities for change . I think that ideas are the nutrients for innovations. You cant improve anything much without them. In this innovation race , organisations with many good ideas at the cuting edge of innovations.

Specaking of ideas , i must say that the highlights of the Strategy Meeting for me , was the evening event at Bali Village with Mr Khoo Swee Chiow. One of Asia's leading adventurers, of how will power and perseverance can take you to the top and your dreams a reality.
His list of achievements :-
1998 - Mt Everest
1990 South Pole
2000 & Summits
2001 - Shishapangma without oxygen
2002 – North Pole
2003 – Cycling Singapore-Beijing
2004 – Swimming Straits of Malacca
2005 – World’s Longest Scuba Dive
2006 – Mt Everest
2007 – World’s Longest Journey on Skates
Starting from end of this year, he plans to run 70 marathons , around the world in the next 12 months.

Some people ask , why do we have him to speak .......
my personal answers , when we think that we have already accomplished just about all that we can accomplished or that when we feel that some factors are beyond our control , company policy , missing technology, lack of resources all, of those that's blocking performance improvement , We must recognise that such self limiting ideas are universal. A creative vision can be a source of inspirations and that's what the evening is all about !!! Get a creative Vision!!

WALK THE TALK

DON’T JUDGE THE DOCTOR BY HIS WEIGHT... FORUM dd 15th Jul 2010

Interesting topic that I read about in today’s paper. The remark jolted my memory , immediately my mind zoomed in to an incident some month back at the doctor’s office ( nutrinionist I mean ) . I was there because my daughter has to see her for weight management issues. Nevermind that , I think my daughther is doing well in that area cos she’s watching what she eats & when she eats and the rest. Well of course always room for improvement there…..So girl continue doing the god job , so proud of you !

Ok, lets continue ….so I walked in with my daugther and then , I was startled by the unexpected figure of both the doctor and the nurse . Who said I was looking for Noami Campbell’s figure?? I was not!! I am realistic !!
But I saw was not exactly the image I had in mind. Both nutrinionist and the nurse were equally overweight!! Talk to me about weight management !! … Errrrr before that , should we trade places, first then maybe some credential there haha.

Throughout the session , I am having such conflict in my mind , why don’t you put into practiCe what you preach ?? What’s wrong with the advice , is it not working for you ?? Is this diet a good programme a balanced programme , an effective program ?? Can we do this actually or is just a good powerpoint presentation ???
If the ideas you are promoting are congruent with your core beliefs and values, these actions will come easily, too. Model the behavior / change you want to see from others. There is nothing more powerful for children than observing the “PE teachers/ nutrinionist ” do the actions or behaviors they are requesting from others. As Mahatma Gandhi said, “Become the change you wish to see in the world." And, it will happen

MY AGENDA IN STRATEGY MEETING......

Typically , strategy meeting is always held out of office location , a retreat !!! Great ! I am soo looking foward to this coming strategy meeting end of this month held in Swissotel the Stamford ???? Wonder why i am so excited???

Of course I am excited about information too ,( dont get me wrong ) performance management , balanced scorecard , strategy maps , blah blah blah . The business climate is better now but well all of us are aware we are heading into the world characterised by big event , big forces & massive storms . Talk abt big event , I am going to attend an information session in Shanghai early August and will take the opportunity to extend a day to visit the EXPO , that's huge huh ! Will upload a photo taken there
Anyway back to the meeting , I guess , this meeting is not going to be all woe and trouble......

We had received the agenda for the meeting , that should structure my day however I cannot help but have some vivid memories flashing infront me about this hotel. It was so many years back, a special date , it was my anniversary . My dear husband arranged a surprise date for me! I was simply elated over dinner at Equinox and a romantic nite there . It was one of the wonderful memories that last forever , still smiling & grinning while typing . And so and I am just wondering how much will I get out of this coming meeting . Maybe my mind will sabotage me with those memories ... afterall I can recall very clearly how the evening went ! ( looking high & lows for the photos)

So what will my agenda be ???

LEADING FROM THE FRONT ............

SMRT CEO made headlines when , all MRT commuters are making beeline everyday of the week , just to get onboard the crowded trains. In her recent interviews , her remarks on current situation of overcrowded trains led many Singaporeans dismayed.

I say , its a piece of ' disinterested advice 'when she said 'people can board the train - its whether they choose to or not". From the tone of what she stated , and just as important , what she did not say , I really could shake my angry finger at her for her rude and uncaring attitude.
I wonder what are , our choices really? One packed train......, another packed train ......another packed train........and another packed train ????
That raised another question , What experience does she really have with the peak hour trains? I had taken a train at 10pm and was left wondering , how could it still be crowded at that hour. Apparently , someone is not doing her job right.
Ms Saw, I suggest that you make time to experience the peak hour rush and let see , if " we've yet to push people into the train "

Interesting observation .......

IT's ALL IN THE BALANCE .....

What the FISH!!!!!!

Recently a restaurant Feng Shui inn , in RWS made headlines when they charged SGD1224 for a fish dish. What the fish!!!! Would I have flipped if I were the customer ???? Well for one. I had always trained myself to make informed decision.....whatever the matter is. In this case , if the waiter hadnt told me of the price , I would have tactfully asked . For sure i wouldnt open my mouth with "How much is it??" Probably I would start with , where the fish is from , reared , farmed and well a little bit more about the 'origin' of the fish , & in the end ask ,how much it will cost me ? I would think that, in that kind of high end restaurant , some one better know more about the fish than me!

But Intan ...... asking questions like that , would make you look like "out of the league" cheapen oneself ??? HUH!!!"
Ok , what are my options , ASK or ASSUME
When i ask , i get facts , when I assume , I make an ass of u and me
So of course i would ASK !!

Guess , its in not in asking that makes one ' out of the league', its in the ' Assume" that makes one one an ass !! Just my thought .....

Well will I continue to ask for prices , or will I assume , you guess ????? :):)

AMBUSHED ...........................by KILLER LITTER

Ambushed ………………by killer litter !!!

There has been many cases of killer litter again in Singapore and most recently someone got seriously injured when a pot fell him!

Almost 80 % of Singaporeans or perhaps higher % are living in high-rise Housing Development Board (HDB) flats. In the face of recent case of killer litter and cases before this incident , I am starting to feel that tougher measures are required to ensure killer litter free environment in our housing estates. Whilst we must continue the campaigns, news letter, I am also of the opinion that Town Council must seriously act on HDB dwellers / residents that refuse to cooperate towards killer litter free environment . These are the residents that hang or place objects where they could easily fall off and pose danger to public safety. Some potential killer litter items include items hung from bamboo pole holders such as potted plants, brooms and mops, and bird cages hung from the ceiling above the parapet wall. Up to 3rd quarter of 2009 HDB had issued some 39,000 warnings to HDB dwellers in attempt to educate them towards a safe living environment.

Most HDB dwellers enjoy somekind of subsidy on their conservancy charges. I must admit that I have been a very disciplined HDB dweller , I don’t pee in the lift , I don’t spit out of my window , I throw big bulky items at the designated location , definitely nothing goes out of my window and I do not compromise other people safety by hanging anything that could be hazardous!

But I am getting nothing for good behaviour . In fact, compared to other HDB dwellers I paid full for everything and at all times !
Reason … I own a private property and therefore I am not entitled to any subsidies.
What's wrong with having a retirement plan ??? WhatEver !!!

That make me think , isnt it time we remove the subsidies from those who refuse to relocate potentially safety hazard object that can cause injuries and even loss of lives. I know that any one convicted of throwing killer litter can be fined up to SG$2,500 and or jailed for up to six months , and also ,the possibility that HDB can acquire the flats in some extreme cases.

Lets not wait for another killer litter incident, with joint effort , any one of us who spot a potential safety hazard can make a report to Town council and if the household refuse to remove the object , remove their subsidies !! Sure , investigation by town council first , I agree to that.

Guess we will be seeing more of the grassroot members visiting homes , mmmmm
